Contact telephone numbers

Pre-school               : 9am – 3pm              - 01892 535679

Supervisor               : Sandra Chapman   - Home number  01892 683066

Registration FormsPlease ensure all your details are up to date on the registration form that you completed when your child first started with us, such as mobile phone numbers and additional contact details of grandparents etc.   If your child is upset or ill at pre-school and we cannot contact you, it can be very upsetting for them.

Dates for your Diary

Monday 17 September– During this week fire drills will take place weather permitting.  After the fire drill is announced, the children are quickly lead into the side alley via the back room exit.  Staff check all the rooms, toilets and office, collect the register and  make a headcount outside to agree with the register, then everyone returns to the hall.  In the event of a real fire, children would be escorted to the car park further down the road.  It might be a good idea to practice a fire drill at home during this week, so they would know what to do at home too.

Tuesday 30 October – 8.30am to 10am The Tempest Photographer will be coming to playgroup during the morning.   If your child is already at playgroup they will automatically have their photo taken, however, if they are not, please bring them in between the above times, using the side door, on the right of the building.  Feel free to bring siblings for family photos.

General Information

Keyworker List

The Keyworker list is on the notice board, obviously with staff changes there are key worker changes.    Please liase with your keyworker to keep us and yourself up to date with any information regarding your child and please do not hesitate to contact if you have any problems, especially for new children settling in.   If you wish to see your child’s keyworker to discuss their progress, this can be arranged at a quiet time during the day. We observe the children daily and each child has their own record book with their progress recorded and you can read this at any time.

Collecting Children/Policies and Procedures

If you are unable to collect your child yourself at the end of the session, please ensure you inform us beforehand who will be collecting them with some form of verification on recognising the person, for obvious security reasons.  This will then be written on the white board.

This is part of our Policies and Procedures which is important for all parents to read.   There is a copy of the policies in the foyer.  Please sign the book labelled “Parents Policy Record Book” to let us know you have read them.  If you feel you would not have time to do this in the foyer, see Sandra and we can arrange a photocopied set for you to take home.

Consent Form for photography & Images of Children

Children may have their photo taken whilst in pre-school, either for displays at pre-school or for our website, please read the consent form carefully and sign it if you are happy for us to do so.  Please see Sandra if you wish to discuss this.

Toys from home

Please make sure sweets, chewing gum, money and small toys are not bought in as they can be dangerous for our younger children and do get lost.

Jewellery.

A reminder that jewellery is not permitted at playgroup, this can get caught on the play equipment and can be very dangerous.  We will remove jewellery from your child at the beginning of the session, if in our opinion it could be potentially hazardous.  For your information, local primary school protocol on jewellery is only stud earrings allowed and no necklaces.

Sickness

If your child comes down with any form of diarrhoea and vomiting bug, please do not send your child to playgroup for at last 24 hours after they recover.

For Sale – Sweatshirts!

We have Little Appleseed logo navy sweatshirts for sale for £8, please write your child’s name on the inside label.     The sweatshirts are hard-wearing, washable and will save your children’s clothes from an assortment of paint, glue and more!

Please ensure you send at least one change of clothes for your child in case of accidents, in a named bag, hanging on their peg.  If they still require nappies, please provide them in their bag; we do have a pack of spare nappies, but we only have one size that might not fit your child.

Just a reminder that the building is a no-smoking zone,  no food or drink is to be consumed on the premises.  We have children that have nut allergies so extra care must be taken not to bring foods containing nuts into playgroup.   Please do not bring dogs inside the building.

Donations of biscuits, Robinsons Special R Squash, boxes of tissues are very welcome during the term, thank you to everyone that donated last term.

Please check your child’s hair regularly for signs of headlice.  Primary school policy is if a child has a persistent head lice problem, the child will be excluded from school until the child head is clear to prevent further spreading.

If your child requires the toilet before 9.15am for morning session or 12.30pm for an afternoon session, can you please accompany your child to the toilet, as often we are moving chairs and tables and this can therefore be hazardous.

Finally, please look at the notice board in the lobby regularly for further updates and upcoming events.

If you have not paid yet or not advised Sandra if your child is going, please do so asap.    We will be meeting at playgroup for the usual time 9.15am to leave at 9.30am. The coach will be parked outside St Matthew’s School and will return at approximately 3.00pm. Please remember a packed lunch and appropriate clothing, raincoat/wellies/suncream/sunhat depending on the weather.  For those not going on the trip,  playgroup will be open for 1 session from 10am to 12.30pm, please let Sandra know if your child is attending this session.  If you are not currently receiving Nursery Education Grants, the cost of this session is £5.50, payable on the day.

St Matthews School visits – Monday 11 and 25 June

We will walk the children up to the school. YOU must pick them up at 12noon from St Matthew’s School

Barnardos Big Toddle - Wednesday 20 June

We will be walking to the Frank Weare Recreation Park where they can play and then we walk them back.   We are doing this for the morning session and afternoon, so will need lots of helpers, please arrive at 10.30am for the morning session and 1.30pm for the afternoon session. You should all have received sponsor forms.

Record of Transfer- (for those children starting school only)

There will be on the noticeboard soon an example of a Record of Transfer form which we are obliged to complete on every child leaving playgroup this Summer. A photocopy of the Record of Transfer form will then be sent direct to your child’s school and you will receive the original copy of the form to keep.   The form will only be sent to the school if you, the parent/career, agree to this and sign the form to this effect,  adding any comments you wish.    For you also to keep will be The Foundation Stage, Areas of Learning and Early Learning Goals booklet, which your child’s keyworker has been continually recording and updating with your child’s progress through observations since your child began at playgroup.  The book is designed to cover the Foundation Stage which continues up to your child finishes reception, so obviously not every aspect will be completed, just what we have covered at playgroup and what we have observed your child doing.

Beach Day – Thursday 12 July 2007

We will be having a seaside fun Beach Day on Thursday 12 July.  The children will have the opportunity to play in sand on a tarpaulin sheet in the main hall with buckets and spades, they will be able to make sandwiches for their picnic at the seaside (ham or jam), and of course no day out at the beach would be complete without an ice cream!   Please advise us regarding any allergies your child has, that you have not already informed us of.

Please start thinking about what sessions you would like your child to do in September and let Sandra know asap.

Little Appleseed sweatshirts are now available for the children priced £8.

Finally, it is with regret that we will be saying goodbye to our longest serving member of staff, Gloria Lloyd, she has seen hundreds of children pass through the Little Appleseed doors, many now in their mid teens!  We will be saying goodbye to her at the Graduation Ceremony with a leaving present, which if anyone would like to contribute towards please see Sandra.   I am sure you will join in with us in wishing her a happy retirement.
