Children who already receive or who are due to start to receive the Nursery Education Grants this term, will need to sign a new Parental Declaration Form. A member of staff will contact you about this. In addition, those children who are due to receive the grants for the first time, will need to give Sandra or Sam to copy of their birth certificate for their records. Headcount week is Monday 16 January, it is very important your child attends this week to ensure they do receive their grant.
Monday 16 January - During this week fire drills will take place weather permitting. After the fire drill is announced, the children are quickly lead into the side alley via the back room exit. Staff check all the rooms, toilets and office, collect the register and make a headcount outside to agree with the register, then everyone returns to the hall. In the event of a real fire, children would be escorted to the car park further down the road. It might be a good idea to practice a fire drill at home during this week, so they would know what to do at home too.
Thursday 23 March. We will be having a Camping Day on Thursday 23 March. We will have tents, sleeping bags etc. The children will be making their own picnic to eat on the day. More details nearer the time.
Well done to everyone that took part in Wheelies Full Stop NSPCC fundraiser, we raised £150.
Keyworker List
The Keyworker list is on the notice board. Please liase with your keyworker to keep us and yourself up to date with any information regarding your child and please do not hesitate to contact if you have any problems, especially for new children settling in. If you wish to see your child’s keyworker to discuss their progress, this can be arranged at a quiet time during the day. We observe the children daily and each child has their own record book with their progress recorded and you can read this at any time.
Collecting Children/Policies and Procedures
If you are unable to collect your child yourself at the end of the session, please ensure you inform us beforehand who will be collecting them with some form of verification on recognising the person, for obvious security reasons. This will then be written on the white board.
This is part of our Policies and Procedures which is important for all parents to read. There is a copy of the policies in the foyer. Please sign the book labelled “Parents Policy Record Book” to let us know you have read them. If you feel you would not have time to do this in the foyer, see Sandra or Julie and we can arrange a photocopied set for you to take home and
If your child is starting school in September this year, please ensure you have your child’s name down for your chosen primary school and have received the form PR1 ready to return to your chosen school.
Snack Time
To continue with our healthy plan, this term in addition to a biscuit, the children will be offered a choice of either a piece of apple, banana or a handful of raisins. If any parent/carer foresees any problems with this with their child, please either speaker to Sandra or Sam or your child’s keyworker. The usual choice of drinks remains the same; water, milk, orange or blackcurrant squash.
Please make sure sweets, chewing gum, money and small toys are not bought in as they can be dangerous for our younger children and do get lost.
A reminder that jewellery is not permitted at playgroup, this can get caught on the play equipment and can be very dangerous. We will remove jewellery from your child at the beginning of the session, if in our opinion it could be potentially hazardous. For your information, local primary school protocol on jewellery is only stud earrings allowed and no necklaces.
If your child comes down with the diarrhoea and vomiting bug that unfortunately is still doing the rounds at the local schools, please do not send your child to playgroup for at last 24 hours after they recover.
Please ensure you send at least one change of clothes for your child in case of accidents, in a named bag, hanging on their peg.
Donations of biscuits, Robinsons Special R Squash are very welcome during the term, thank you to everyone that donated last term.
When it is wet weather, please help us to keep the carpets as dry as possible. There should be a tarpaulin down in the lobby area for pushchairs, brollies can be put into the bin by the door to drip. Please do not bring pushchairs into the main hall when they are wet or the wheels muddy.
Please check your child’s hair regularly for signs of headlice. It is a good idea to use a nit comb after washing hair or at bath time, as a regular routine helps stop the spread of head lice.
If your child requires the toilet before 9.15am for morning session or 12.30pm for an afternoon session, can you please accompany your child to the toilet, as often we are moving chairs and tables and this can therefore be hazardous.
If your child is ill with sickness and/or diarrhoea please do not send your child to pre-school for 24 hours after they recover.
In the interest of safety please ensure your child wears soft shoes with a good grip, such as trainers or Clarks doodles, as some shoes can be slippery on the play equipment. For girls long dresses can also be caught underfoot. Painting can also be very messy (but fun!) so please don’t put your child in their best clothes, old clothes are fine.
Just a reminder that the building is a no-smoking zone and in addition, no food or drink is to be consumed on the premises. We have children that have nut allergies so extra care must be taken not to bring foods containing nuts into playgroup.
Finally, please look at the notice board regularly for further updates and upcoming events.
